MERCY JOHNSON AND THE RESPECT FOR DIVERGENT OPINIONS AND CHOICES

Every Nigerian has  the rights to choose their leaders without pandering to fear, harassment and threats by anyone.

An important lesson every OBIDIENT must learn is elections will come and go but life goes on and there will always be plurality of opinion.

Since the pseudo start of this election cycle we’ve seen, observed and confirmed a heightened level of harassment of citizens via death threats, arson threats, verbal and now physical abuse against those who happen not to support Peter Obi’s candidacy.

From Reno Omokri to Femi Kuti to Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka to the less prominent Nigerians whose voices are not heard, all have collectively been threatened, harassed and abused all because they have a contrary opinion on their choice for Nigeria’s next leader.

The recent, is the now infamous verbal attack and threats on Nollywood celebrities who were included in the APC  women campaign council.

There is tyranny evidently emanating in the conduct of Peter Obi’s political supporter’s. Tyranny of choice. If anyone supports any other candidate outside Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), then they must have been bought or compromised, and are deserving of violent death.

Take Mercy Johnson as a case study. She was SSA to governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. Also important to note is that she is a card carrying member of the APC. Her husband Prince Odi Okojie is the APC candidate for the Federal House of Representatives Esan North East and South East federal constituency.

Yet several ignorant so called OBIDIENT have villified, abused and  threatened her  all for supporting a platform she is a part of.

Must everybody support your candidate? Every citizen have a right to support whoever they choose as their preferred candidate. What happens to respect for divergent opinions and choices?

Ignorant OBIDIENT must understand that after the elections, comes governance. If Peter Obi by some conspiracy of destiny, which is unlikely, wins the 2023 presidential election, how does he hope to govern the country when his foot soldiers are dangling a sword over those who differ?
